PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
This ministry began after much prayer and mediation about the desire to do service in my community in a way that was meaningful and used what skills I had. One of the blessings about journeying through breast cancer with someone like my mom is that all sorts of people have reached out and shared their blessings with us. One such blessing was a prayer shawl given to me for my mom by Reverend Johanna from the First Christian Church in downtown Portland, and while neither my mom nor I share Johanna's faith tradition, her gift from her church's prayer shawl ministry was an incredible blessing to both my mother and myself. Her gift inspired my own ministry and I am incredibly grateful for those who have asked me to create prayer shawls for people in their life who were in need of comfort, blessings or to use as part of a sacred ceremony.
First of all, please know that each shawl is a gift freely given. They can not be bought or sold, but are my way of giving back to my community and to share the blessings that have been shared with my family. If you know of someone in need of comfort, let me know. Every shawl is hand knit, each seed stitch has a prayer and blessing woven into it. I can custom create the prayer or blessing or you can share one with me. If you desire a specific color I can also honor that or if you like, I can choose the colors myself based on prayer and meditation. All I need is the name of the person receiving the shawl and where to send it to. I will cover the cost of the postage and materials. There is at present a two week turn around since I am the only one knitting at the moment. If you know of anyone interested in knitting for this prayer shawl ministry you can also let me know. I am grateful for anyone desiring to knit or crochet prayer shawls.
